They upgraded a couple of other things early on as well. They immediately changed suppliers for their belts, which was apparently the culprit with the speed issues which were measured. The old review of the Orbit was of an early production sample. The turntable is another clone turntable made in China at the same factory as many other brands are, including Pioneer and all AT turntables. I do like belt-drive turntables and prefer to use one for my needle drops because of a smoother start-up that direct drive. Incidentally, I use a black Technics headshell with my CD-4 cartridge mounted in it to distinguish it from the other carts mounted in silver headshells. These have a 30khz carrier frequency and it gets passed through just fine. One of the record formats I play is the CD-4 discrete quadraphonic. What I can tell you is that there are no set standards for pre-amps, so each model will sound different.Īlso, in the bypass mode, it doesn't hamper any frequencies. Well, I've never used the pre-amp and always have used the bypass mode, so I can't judge using the pre-amp. So try to make you believe that the built-in pre-amp is bad, even in the bypass mode. Adjustable anti-skate(anti-skate adjustment is different for cartridges with different VTA and it gives you another fine-tuning adjustment) Or remounting cartridges and to be able to use the best suited cartridge for the record)ĥ). Removable universal headshell(I play many different formats of records and just have to swap out the headshell without having to futz with changing stylii Quartz locked(keeps the set speed constant)Ĥ). Adjustable speed pitch of either a 10% or 20% scale(not all records are cut at the proper speed)ģ).

3-speeds(as I play all the different speeds)Ģ). Here are the advantages of why I like the AT-LP120:ġ).

If all I needed was a 2-speed turntable, I'd choose the AT-LP5 many times over a U-turn. Smart people usually dispose of the AT carts which come with many of their other turntables and replace them with better cartridges. The AT-LP1240 has a different look and doesn't come with a pre-mounted cartridge. Other comparable AT turntables pretty much have the same specs, but different looks. The main disadvantage of the AT-120LP is the K-rappy cartridge it comes with. With the flurry of these types of turntables, it has allowed AT to raise their prices. Although the people at U-turn have been accommodating, the turntable is still under-engineered. Then I heard about speed and motor problems. Although I've heard that they've re-designed it, the tonearm suspension was and still is questionable. It doesn't even have an anti-skate or speed adjustment. Items like dust cover and cue-lift are optional. When I first saw the U-turn Orbit, it reminded me of a kiddie turntable and looked even moreso in person.

#ORBIT TURNTABLE PLUS#

I am partial to the AT-LP120 and has owned 2, plus many other turntables.
